Cutting-Edge Technology that Makes Trucks Safer

Heavy-duty pickup trucks, like the Chevrolet Silverado, are usually purchased for the weight that can be placed on the bed, and the towing capacity. While that makes the trucks versatile and valuable, it can also increase the dangers of operating the vehicle when hauling or towing large or heavy loads. Over the past decade, truck manufacturers have continued to improve the stability and safety of pickups as they increase the power and performance to meet customer demands.

Stability

The heavier the load, the longer the item towed, and the rougher the route taken have dramatic effects on the stability of the vehicle. A heavy load can shift and cause the truck to roll over. A swaying trailer can result in the driver losing control of the vehicle and causing an accident. Rollback on hills is also dangerous.

One system developed, StabiliTrak, addresses all those issues. The system is standard on all General Motors trucks, including the powerful CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500. The Silverado has a towing capacity of eight-thousand pounds with a standard model and twelve-thousand pounds with an upgraded V8 engine. Stability is paramount.

The components of this unique stability system include built-in rollover mitigation and automatic brake response that prevents rollback when going uphill. The system is designed to prevent towing sway by sensing any movements to either side and automatically readjusting the towing mechanism.

Safety

An advanced collision safety system, also standard, is designed to protect the driver and passengers before, during, and after any serious collision. A driver-side spotter mirror eliminates any blind spots. Six airbags will deploy on impact to minimize injury. Once any of those airbags are deployed, a chain reaction happens to get help as soon as possible.

The Global Positioning Satellite (GPS) system and wireless communication capability are automatically engaged. The hazard and interior lights go on and the doors unlock for faster escape or accessibility for rescue responders. Another component is the automatic shut off of the fuel system to drastically reduce the possibility of fire.

Compare

Comparing the stability and safety systems of trucks is actually more important than comparing performance and pricing. Finding one truck that is leading in all those categories will save money, increase capability, and keep people safe. Visit a trusted Chevrolet car dealer to begin research and comparisons. Ask about certified and factory pre-owned trucks while at the dealership for even more savings. Incentives and financing options are also available.
